25 Facts About Faithfulness
The success equation is incomplete without faithfulness. Think of it, the success of the ant colony depends on their tireless dedication to gathering ahead of winter. But despite being of the smallest of creatures, their unwavering faithfulness in service transforms success. Similarly, true success does not rely on talent alone; the often-overlooked virtue of faithfulness plays a huge role. The Bible underscores this:
“A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.” Proverbs 28:20
In this faithfulness bible verse, success is not defined by quick wins or shortcuts, but by faithfulness. A deeper look shows that process is a key determinant of success, whether in relationships, work, or spiritual life. In this blog post, we’ll explore 25 facts about faithfulness, from its biblical definition to how it affects our lives, especially as Christians who want to become ambidextrous believers, excellent in ministry and in profession.
Fact 1: You can not call yourself faithful
Faithfulness is a character trait that others have to attest to.
“Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required in stewards that a man be found faithful.” 1 Corinthians 4:1-2
The phrase “be found faithful” implies that your faithfulness is something observed and affirmed by others, not something you declare for yourself.
Fact 2: Faithfulness is defined as being trustworthy
The word “faithful” is derived from the Greek ‘pistos,’ which finds its etymology in ‘pistis,’ meaning “faith. ‘Pistos’ means trustworthy, trustful, and to be sure. In the Hebrew word ‘faithful’ finds its root in ‘emum’, which means to be established and trustworthiness. Hence, the faithfulness definition in the bible depicts a man who can be trusted, dependable, and capable.
Fact 3: God is not going to be unfaithful because you are unfaithful.
The very nature of God depicts faithfulness. Take a look at the Psalms, you will see faithfulness songs celebrating the nature of the God who doesn’t back down on his word. When God speaks, he commits himself to what he has said. The writer of Hebrews depicts the stance of God towards keeping his faithfulness to his children and his word.
“That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie…” Hebrews 6:18
Even when you do not believe in him, he remains consistent in his faithfulness. Now, if you know that God is committed to you, your stance is to believe him and settle that matter in your heart.
Fact 4: There must be people at the receiving end of your faithfulness.
You can not brag about your faithfulness; you have to be found faithful.
“Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?” Proverbs 20:6
Most people toot their horns about how committed they are to their jobs, family as a way to show their unwavering faithfulness in service. But a closer look at their family will show their lack of commitment.
The first set of people who can attest to your faithfulness is your family and your spouse. You must be there for your family. Don’t be so busy that your children can’t see you. Your hard work is a model to your children and you can not be a model in absentia. You can be a model of success by being there for your family. You must also depict faithfulness in marriage to your children by honouring your spouse and the word of God in how you treat your spouse.
Other people who can attest to your faithfulness are your colleagues, business partners, and subordinates. As an employer, if you do not pay the salary of your workers on time or pay them well, you are not a faithful person.
Fact 5: Your growth as a believer is dependent on your consistent walk with God.
The core of our lives as believers lies in our relationship with God. That is where we draw strength and wisdom from. Now imagine playing truancy with your source of strength and wisdom, that means you’d be an unwise and weak believer. The Psalmist depicts the dependence of the believer (sheep) on the chief shepherd (God).
“He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” Psalm 23:3
Your commitment to the truth of God’s world and faithfulness in prayer is essential to your growth as a believer.
Fact 6: If you are unfaithful to your vision, it will die
Be consistent in your commitment to your vision. A vast majority of believers have given up on the vision of God for their lives because of hardship. You must have staying power to see the plans of God for your life come to fruition. Take a look at how the book of Proverbs describes the man who quits his vision due to hardship.
“If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.” Proverbs 24:10
A man who quits the plan of God for his life due to hardship is weak. Now, where do you think that weakness comes from? It comes from the soul, and this happens when you do not feed your spirit by being faithful to your devotional life. When adversity comes, you do not need to quit; what you can do is rest. And one of the best ways to rest is to rest in God and on his word.
Fact 8: A faithful man is not a gossip
Gossip is proof of a faithless spirit. Speaking against authority undermines your own future authority. Gossip plants seeds that either stop you from building or ensure you attract unfaithful people when you do.
The bible clearly spells out why you should avoid speaking ill of those in authority.
“Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.” Ecclesiastes 10:20
Equally, do not speak ill of your parents, your boss, your leader and others. Remember that “a backbiter has to be at the back.”
Fact 9: Faithfulness thrives in quiet work.
“And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands…”
1 Thessalonians 4:11
We live in an age where we consistently need to show up and put our lives on display for others. But faithfulness is not for show. Take a look at the ants, they are not worried about the accolades from onlookers; rather, they are quiet, intentional, and focused on gathering. If you stay consistent, your faithfulness will announce you to the world.
Fact 11: Faithfulness means steadiness, not perfection.
To be faithful is to be constant, not perfect. If you are looking for a person who fits the faithfulness definition, take a look at look at Father Abraham. He was stable and consistent. Did he make a mistake? Yes, but that did not define his journey; he got back up again and continued. Falling is part of the journey; what matters is rising again.
“For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again…”
Proverbs 24:16
Fact 12: Faithfulness restores broken relationships.
We have examined the fact that people have to attest to your faithfulness, but what if that can result in reputation repair? This was the case of Paul’s relationship with Onesimus and Philemon. While Paul was in Prison, he had met with and converted Onesimus. However, Onesimus had proved to be faithful and profitable to Paul. Hence, Paul had to write a letter to Philemon asking him to pardon Onesimus.
“Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:” Philimon 1:11
Your faithfulness can mend fractured relationships. However, you have to stay the course and remain consistent in your walk with God. Onesimus didn’t have to tell Paul to ask his master Philemon for forgiveness; his faithfulness spoke up on his behalf.
Fact 13: Your faithfulness in another man’s vision will determine your results.
“If ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?”
Luke 16:12
The story of the unprofitable servant in Luke 16 is a classic faithfulness bible verse that should guide how you treat your job and your other commitments. Faithfulness shows in how you handle what belongs to others. While the profitable steward protected and multiplied the resources of their master, the unprofitable servant showed disdain for his master and hence did not make any gain. Commit to the vision of others that have been kept in your care and watch how that will influence your results.
Fact 14: Faithfulness is loyalty to your word.
The Bible describes a righteous man as one who keeps his word, even when it isn’t convenient.
“…he that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.” Psalm 15:4
How often have you had to tell a white lie to get out of a commitment? This is your cue to repent and start keeping to your word. The more lies you tell, the more you school your heart not to believe in your own words. Try as much as possible to keep your word, even when it costs you, or avoid making promises unless you are certain.
Fact 15: God doesn’t want your faithfulness to be need-based.
A lot of Christians lead need-based lives. Your needs shouldn’t define your walk with God. If your prayer life is only about your needs, your faith becomes survival-based. God wants your faithfulness to him to be love-based, not focused on needs.
Fact 16: Faithfulness means living by the Word, not miracles.
Can you still remember our definition of faithfulness? One of faithfulness’s synonyms is the word ‘capable’. God wants us to use his word in our daily lives, not waiting and depending on a random act of a miracle from him. Of course, miracles are a part of the believer’s life, but the believer must be keen to live by the word and not just wait for crisis rescue. Miracles are interventions, not a lifestyle. Jesus gave a clear description of how the believer should live.
“…Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word…” Matthew 4:4
Fact 17: Faithfulness includes respecting God’s timing.
The things of God are characterized by principles, patterns, processes, and purpose. God takes His time to raise people. Faithfulness means staying in class until you pass the test. Skipping divine processes leads to disqualification. While you are waiting, do not consider the process of God as a period of suffering. Rather, take it as a pruning season.
Fact 18: Faithfulness refuses entitlement.
Faithfulness recognises principles and processes, and that is why it is constant. A faithful man is not entitled. The parable in Luke 19 depicts an entitled people. They had no regard for the ruler but wanted his resources.
“But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us” Luke 19:14
Faithfulness acknowledges the source and respects the one who sends you. For instance, you should acknowledge the resources that your employer or your parents give to you by utilizing them well and not speaking ill of them.
Fact 19: Your language reveals your faithfulness.
You can not hide unfaithfulness for long. Still looking at the parable of the unprofitable servant, his use of words displayed his unfaithfulness. The servant’s language revealed the state of his heart.
“For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.’ Luke 19:21
As stewards of God, we must learn to speak with honour and caution. Our words control our hearts, and this is why we are advised against actions of dishonour, such as gossiping. A faithful man must guard his heart by watching his language.
Fact 20: Faithfulness isn’t tied to perfect systems.
Don’t wait for perfect conditions to act. There are no ideal systems, only people who are committed to putting in the work. Imagine a farmer waiting for the perfect conditions before planting? He may never get started. Faithfulness is a commitment to progress and a disregard for imperfections.
Fact 21: Faithfulness includes correction.
Correction is a tool for improvement. However, people rarely want to accept correction.
“He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul…” Proverbs 15:32
We have established that faithfulness is constancy; so in a time of correction, you have to remain constant. For instance, if you receive a correction from a leader about a certain action, that shouldn’t mean that you stop or abandon your duties in the house of God out of anger.
You should never leave a church because you were corrected! How you leave does not leave you!
Fact 22: If you decide to be unfaithful, remember that God doesn’t fund disobedience.
An unfaithful man will lose what he has. The unprofitable servant was disobedient. Yet he came boldly like the others to receive a reward. However, he was stripped of even the little he had.
“Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.” Luke 19:24
Faithfulness invites more responsibility while disobedience leads to loss.
Fact 23: Be faithful in offense, don’t let hurt derail you.
Part of faithfulness in marriage is to maintain constancy even when offenses arise. In marriage, you must learn how to forgive in advance. Offense is a strategy to interrupt your elevation. When people hurt you, choose healing over retaliation. Always maintain a position of honour and faithfulness during contention. Remember the instruction of God,
“Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” Romans 12:19
Fact 24: As a minister, you must be faithful in Prayer
Many faithfulness bible verses show us examples of men who were committed to the call of God on their lives. One of such examples is Ephaphras. Paul described Ephaphras’ attitude to prayers for the saints.
“Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.” Colossians 4:12
As the leader of the Colossian church, Paul could attest to his faithfulness, the same way that he could of Timothy’s.
Fact 25: Your faithfulness or the lack of it is being observed
As a believer, people are observing you. To be faithful means to be constant, to be the same, and not to be flaky. People would recommend you for things and your faithfulness is the metric by which they can tell of your character; hence, you want to maintain constancy in character.
